Meet My PA: Gabby Logan and her PA – Bernie Williams
Peter da Silva meets one of TV’s best known and loved presenters Gabby Logan. In 2008 she was one of the anchor presenters for the BBC’s coverage of the Olympics. She runs her own company – Doosport, with her husband Kenny Logan which is all about sport, health and well-being. Gabby is also a speaker at a variety of events.
Peter da Silva (PdS): How did you find your PA and for how long have you had a Personal Assistant for in general?
GL: I have had a PA for about 7 years. Bernie was a friend of my last PA so she came highly recommended. She has been with me now for two and a half years!
PdS: How important are Bernie’s sporting interests for this role?
GL: She happens to be a Chelsea fan and watches a lot of cricket and its nice that she knows the people I am talking about, but it’s not imperative. My husband Kenny’s PA is less into sport, she answered the door to Lee Dixon (ex England and Arsenal) and said ‘Kenny your cab is here’ while almost shutting the door on him. We haven’t let her live it down! You could say there is a fair mix in the house of sporting interests.
PdS: What are the key things you look for when looking for a PA?
GL: Reliable, hard working, trustworthy and common sense are the main attributes and a sense of humour is good too. Bernie is all of those and a whole lot more. I always feel she is on my side, which is great. She doesn’t brown nose anybody so if Bernie pays you a compliment you know you are doing something right.
PdS: We see you on TV and are familiar with your TV work, tell us a little about doosport.com
GL: We started a website a couple of years ago which we hope will help bring the world of sport together.
I am passionate about getting more people playing and participating in sport.
PdS: What made you apply to become Gabby’s PA?
BW: My friend, Susan Willer (Chris Tarrant’s PA) recommended me. I have never got a job through an Agency, it has always been word of mouth.
PdS: What are the most exciting things about your role?
BW: The variety – no 2 days are ever the same! I particularly enjoy dealing with the many charities Gabby is involved with, and currently we are working on a venture Gabby is involved with – www.doosport.com which is keeping me fit and healthy!
PdS: What tips would you give anyone wanting to break into the high profile PA sector?
BW: The main thing is, is not to think of the role as high profile, be down to earth, have plenty of common sense and be pleasant to everyone you deal with on behalf of your employer.
